Studio Break is now accepting from submissions from Professional Artists, Deadline: October 31st

Eligibility: Applicants should be serious artists with a dedicated history of making and exhibiting artwork in professional settings, the competition is open to emerging, mid-career, established, and outsider artists. Artists who’ve been featured on Studio Break in 2024/25 are ineligible; students interested in applying should apply to the upcoming Student Competition in the spring of 2026.

Studio Break Winners:
5 Professional Artists
 will be featured on Studio Break, this includes an online gallery and participation in the Studio Break Podcast with an episode highlighting the artists studio practice and current exhibitions.
1 Artist will be selected for an upcoming Solo-Exhibition at Studio Break Gallery
2 Artists
will be selected for an upcoming Two-Person Exhibition at Studio Break Gallery

Media:  the competition is open to all visual media:
2-D (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography)
3-D (sculpture, installation)
New Media (video, performance)

__Applicants should submit a $20 application fee via Venmo Link or PayPal Link

__Artists should include their full name, a website link to their portfolio & Instagram account.
__Artists submitting video or time based work should include hyperlinks to review video on portfolio websites or video sites like vimeo, youtube, etc...

Juror: Frank Trankina

Frank Trankina is an Internationally exhibited artist/painter. Born in Chicago, he received his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In his studio practice, Trankina has been creating narratives by combining characters from his extensive collection of remnants of popular culture within the context of still life painting. Trankina was the first recipient of the prestigious Alexander Rutsch Award in Painting and 2024 Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award for accomplishments in Visual Art. His international exhibitions include: University of Cambridge Kettle’s Yard, England; Megumi Ogita, Tokyo, Japan (2010, 2012, 2015, 2018); Exco Daegu, South Korea; Art Busan, Busan, South Korea; Alpineum Produzentengalerie, Lucerne, Switzerland; AHOI Gallery, Lucerne, Switzerland; 100 Tonson Foundation and VER Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand. Among his noted national and regional exhibitions include: (Tibor de Nagy Gallery) SPRING/BREAK SHOW, New York, NY; ArtBasel, Miami; American University Museum, Washington, DC; Illinois State Museum; Rockford Art Museum; Chicago Cultural Center; Union League Club of Chicago; Hyde Park Art Center. Trankina’s paintings have been collected into international and national private collections in Indonesia, Switzerland, Japan, Chicago, New York and Washington DC, and is in public permanent collections including, Elmhurst Art Museum, Rockford Art Museum, John Michael Kohler Art Preserve, and numerous other institutions. Trankina is Professor of Art at Northern Illinois University.
